About me
This is a site for me to talk about publishing and writing from the perspective of a literary agent’s assistant, though, as you can probably tell, I’m more likely to post to Twitter than to have the time and focus to write a longer post here.
I’m currently keeping my identity a secret so that I can speak my mind without needing to worry about how my opinions might reflect on my boss, though at some point in the future that might change. Just in case, here’s the disclaimer:
The views expressed on this weblog are mine, and do not necessarily reflect those of my employer.
The agent I work for specializes in fiction, so when I refer to writing I will usually be talking about the writing and publishing of fiction. Non-fiction publishing has its own rules and peculiarities.
If you’d like to contact me, you can send an email to theagentgame AT gmail DOT com. Any queries will be deleted unread.

- 11:33 @sjaejones Definitely not. I found much of the book to be a real grind. #
- 11:52 Sometimes I wonder if a teacher encouraging their high school student to try and get an agent is doing them a favor. #

- 11:34 Please don’t send an e-query with a subject line that reads simply "query" (unless agent’s guidelines say do exactly that). #
- 11:34 Having the title of your book and/or your name in the subject line makes it a bit easier to keep piles of e-queries sorted. #
- 11:35 And, as always, if any of my advice conflicts with an agent’s guidelines, always opt to follow the guidelines! #
- 12:28 @BookEndsJessica Well, I suppose that would work too… #
- 13:04 Is this query really for a ms. that’s over 500k words long? Yes, it is. #donotdothis #
- 13:07 Lunchtime choices: Getting soaked, waiting a long time for delivery, or starving. Perhaps I could have planned this better. #
- 13:25 @sarahlapolla LOL…thanks for the warning! I’ll take that advice, and so be hungry and impatient, but dry. I’ll also tip generously. #

- 10:28 RT @kate_mckean: Remember, I’m closed to queries from July 9 to Sept 13. All received will be deleted unread. #
- 13:25 Number of queries from young people (meaning < 18) certainly seems to have risen last 2 weeks. Summer vacation=querying? #
- 15:22 Read @bradfordlit’s tweets this afternoon about letting your decisions be influenced by panic. #
- 15:31 .@dulle_griet As a rule, young (<18) people seem to be more likely to closely follow our query guidelines. #

- 14:47 I am not looking forward to the pile of new queries that will likely await me come Tuesday morning. #
- 16:34 @IrisBlasi You’d think that’d occupy them, but sadly, no. Anyway, I think it’s the extra day’s worth that’ll make Tuesday’s pile seem big. #
